Research has shown that if you learn material and do not repeat or practice it, the knowledge will disappear. So if you watch a video or read an article today and then do nothing with the material, you will have forgotten 80-90% within a week.
It also works the same way with patterns and habits. If you want to change something structurally, you will have to do something with it consistently. Are you overweight? Then you won't lose weight by eating healthy every other week. Do you want to grow your business? Then you can't just make acquisitions when it suits you.
This is very logical and I can almost hear you thinking: Rick, this is not rocket science. I know this too.
Then I wonder how it is possible that millions of people started eating healthier and exercising more on January 1, but 94% stopped on January 12?
Why is more than half of the Netherlands overweight and why do many entrepreneurs not exercise, while it has long been known that it makes you more productive and energetic?
Knowledge is not the problem, we already know a lot about our own patterns and habits. It just takes a lot of balls and discipline to replace existing patterns with new ones. Not because it has to be better, but because it can be better. And you are the person who wants to get out of it what you put into it.
I want to challenge you to take a look at this. How often do you allow yourself to be without focus or only do half the work? How often do you start something and not finish it? And what would you gain if you worked consistently and with focus?
Write it down and discuss it with a friend, a colleague or your partner. You will be surprised at what insights you come to. Insights that will make you more productive, fitter and more successful if you actually and consistently do something with them. Good luck!
