You're walking down the street and encounter someone you haven't seen in a while. You speak to each other and the conversation often goes like this:
You: how are you?
The other: yes, busy, you know how it is! And with you?
You: Good to hear! Yes, I know, I'm busy too.
And then come the next questions….
In these conversations it often comes across as if being busy is a luxury. And that it is good if you can indicate that you are busy. But have you ever looked at the literal meaning of the word busy? Not? Then look this up. And I'm curious if you still use the word the same.
When I use the word busy it is mainly in the context that there is really a lot to do in a certain period, perhaps even too much. Temporary pressure is not a problem and we can bear it as humans. If this is a long-term phenomenon and structurally present in your life, you are no longer as sharp as possible. Things are more difficult to implement and cost more energy. The result becomes less and less. Your focus wanders and you are indirectly allowing a lower result than possible.
All kinds of (physical) consequences may come into effect:
– Less time for eating;
– Worse recovery;
– More difficult to fall asleep;
– Commitment during training is less;
– Being truly present with family and friends is more difficult;
And so on.
Do you experience the above things in yourself? Set priorities, take a rest and then keep going. You can do this relatively quickly in the following way
1. Observe that it is happening.
2. Stop and ground yourself
3. Make it clear (again) what your commitment is
4. And take the actions necessary
I assume this can help you. And make sure you use your energy as effectively as possible. After all, you can only use it once.
