If you don't meet yourself, you will never get to know yourself.
Who are you, who are you really, that is a question that all philosophers have been asking themselves for thousands of years. I'm not going to venture into answering this question now, but I am going to ask another question, to you. Do you know yourself? Do you really know yourself?
Who you are and whether you know yourself are 2 different things. Knowing is about self-knowledge. Are you as strong, powerful, confident, persistent, smart, honest as you say you are. And how do you know that's the case?
There are various moments in our (daily) lives that we encounter ourselves, for example with major setbacks or changes. When these happen, do you respond as you would like, or does that little devil emerge after all? Because we all have that devil, it is our ego that does not want to be defeated and will do everything it can to protect itself. If possible, he would give responsibility to someone else, shift the blame, stop when things get tough or let you have a conversation with yourself about how you are dealing with this situation.
A good way to train this little devil is to give yourself a challenge that you will encounter. This challenge is of course not a comfortable one, otherwise you won't meet yourself. You will then be given an assignment so that you can get to know yourself.
This week you will do your normal training x2. If you normally run or walk 10 km, you will do 20 km this week. Do you normally have 5 exercises in your training schedule of 3 sets and 30 seconds of rest? Then you now do these 5 exercises with 6 sets and 15 seconds of rest (same weight). If you have a Personal Trainer, indicate that you would like to meet yourself today during training, with the aim of getting to know yourself. He/she will create good conditions and may take you even further than you think.
During this workout you will have several conversations with yourself, but you are now the boss of the conversation and the result. You choose the end goal that you are going to achieve and you choose not to stop and to continue.
Because only when you encounter yourself will you get to know yourself.
