The biological clock, also known as the circadian rhythm, is a small area in the middle of your brain. Your clock ensures that all kinds of processes in your body happen at a certain time, such as sleep-wake cycles, hormone production, body temperature, and metabolism.
Your biorhythm is disturbed if you sleep too early, too late or at constantly changing times for a long time.
Do you ever have trouble getting out of bed in the morning?
We have 2 good tips for you:
1) Light is essential for your biorhythm: Light acts as the main “zeitgeber” (German for “time giver”), an external factor that helps your body synchronize these rhythms with the 24-hour cycle of the day.
Melatonin is a hormone produced by the pineal gland in your brain that plays an important role in regulating sleep. When exposed to light, especially blue light (such as from the sun and screens), melatonin production is suppressed. This helps you stay awake and alert during the day.
When it gets dark, melatonin production actually increases, signaling to your body that it is time to go to sleep. Too little exposure to light during the day or too much artificial light in the evening can disrupt this balance, leading to sleep problems and a disturbed biorhythm.
Make sure you sleep in a dark bedroom at night, but wake up in the morning with light. Does your alarm go off before it is light outside? Then consider a daylight lamp to wake up with.
2) Create a plan and a routine: Make a plan of action and a clear routine, go exercise after a bad night's sleep. Did you know that after a bad night's sleep, it is best to exercise or move for half an hour in the morning to get energy again? That helps better than sleeping in for half an hour longer.
