Monday Master Blog: Slow and steady wins the race

I recently had a conversation with Marianne about her goals. She recently stopped working and is now fully engaged in self-development. She wonders what really suits her, what makes her happy and what her strengths are. This process can take a long time and requires patience. She has also talked about this at home, and her family keeps asking when she will return to work. Her husband, children, parents, everyone seems to be talking about working, while she herself is not ready yet. It's difficult when your environment puts so much pressure on you.

In our coaching I gave her an example: “The Rotterdam Marathon was recently run. Did you read something about this in the newspaper? Abdi Nageeye won. That's very clever, but do you know how he did that? He always walked near his 'hares', who helped him keep a pace. As a result, although he was at the front of the group, he was not in the lead. Only after 34 kilometers (of 42) did he take the lead. He walked at his own pace and did not get carried away by others. By maintaining his own pace, he still had energy left to speed up at the end. I want to give you this example: don't follow the pace of others. Find your own pace and find someone who supports you, but don't let yourself be driven crazy. Your pace, no matter how slow or fast, will ultimately get you to the finish.”

This immediately appealed to her and made her feel stronger. Although this is an example at the sporting level, it applies to varying degrees to everyone, in all goals, at all levels and in all directions. Look at yourself, find your own pace and steps, and that's how you reach the finish line!
