I often hear this from customers at the beginning of the process. “Yes, I really earned my beer and fries during the weekend. I've had such a tough week and I really want to reward myself with something tasty.” Or they've had such an emotional day that they really need that chocolate bar.
Do you recognize this? Or do you sometimes have that feeling, but perhaps with chips, alcohol or something else?
When you are at home, after a long stressful day, you often feel empty and exhausted. To feel better and get energy, grab something you really like as a reward. Because yes, you probably had a really hard time. Getting energy and comfort from food is of course easy to do, but not always healthy. Because often you don't eat just one piece, or a handful, or you don't drink just one glass, but half the bar, half the bag or half the bottle, and sometimes even the whole thing.
It has become a habit if you do this automatically, without really thinking about what you really need. It is a reward for the hard work, but think about it, does it also give you a good feeling in the long term?
No, I don't think so either. Actually none.
The next time you come home tired, ask yourself this question:
What do I REALLY need now?
Is that good training? Fun? Call a good friend or family member. Want some me-time in the form of a good book, a nice series or a motivational podcast? Or have I not been outside yet today and the weather is nice? Maybe it would also be nice to take a walk outside or enjoy the sunset? Or look for a different kind of reward that will also make you happy, such as flowers, books or nice cards. What do I really need?
Once you have asked yourself this question a few times, you can also go deeper. Why am I so tired when I come home after a day of work? What causes that? How am I at work? Take these questions with you to your work and take a good look at how you do your things.
You can still have such a busy job, feel so much responsibility and have to run so much, but ultimately YOU are the only one who can do something about it. Once you change the way you work, you don't have to come home completely exhausted and exhausted.
Also consider how much you sleep in a night and whether you are in a good rhythm? And try to go to bed earlier.
Think about where your energy is leaking and where you get energy from. Find a good balance between this, set good boundaries for yourself and get to know yourself even better.
