I want to lose 10 kilos this summer, but it takes me so much effort to lose weight.
We all have our patterns, which we have been doing the same for years. Change takes effort. Do you also know why?
Because our “reptilian brain” is made to get ourselves to safety as quickly as possible when there is danger. So that we also know, as soon as we carry out this action, we will be safe. Our brain is so used to taking the path of least resistance because it knows the outcome of safety. By doing this thousands of times, with good results, this has become a pattern. If we do this, then….
As soon as we start doing something different, we feel resistance because we don't know what the outcome will be. As a result, we fall back into old patterns, or we postpone things to avoid being confronted with this resistance.
When we eat a marshmallow once, we do not immediately become 10 kilos heavier (fortunately, otherwise the problem in the world would be even bigger 😉 ) but we also do not get a well-trained body after one good workout. This has to become a habit, we have to learn a new pattern.
Of course, in addition to sports, we also see this in our daily lives. Do you want a new position at work, or do you want more customers for your own company? But do you experience resistance? What is holding you back, and what do you have to do or who do you have to be to break this pattern?

Once we have a clear idea of what we want to work towards, we still experience resistance, but intrinsic motivation increases. Then it's a matter of structure. As soon as you add structure and rhythm to your daily life, you will be able to implement changes much more easily. This is how we create new, workable patterns!
