Have you ever wondered whether it is wise to make an effort before going to sleep?
The influence of physical exertion on the quality and quantity of our sleep depends on many factors, including the type of exercise, the duration, intensity of the exercise and the time of day when your exercise takes place.
What happens to your body during training? And what is the consequence of that?
Exercising breaks down stress hormones faster and releases the hormone endorphins. This hormone makes us feel happier and experience less stress, but it also keeps us alert and awake.
In addition, when exercising, adrenaline is released and our body temperature and heart rate increase. This means we have more energy for several hours after exercise. To fall asleep easily, the body must first cool down and the heart rate decreases. The body needs a few hours after exercise for this adjustment, so that you can fall asleep well.
So for a good night's sleep, try to give your body at least one hour to calm down before going to bed/going to sleep.
