The Enforce story by Daphne Rorije: It was a powerful experience

“It happens outside your comfort zone.” That quote couldn't have been more striking for me. Personally, I am someone who prefers to remain comfortable with what I already know. But does doing the same thing over and over make you better, stronger or fitter? Of course not! My first step to participate in the clinic in the Amsterdam forest was a very uncomfortable one for me; with strange people, doing something in a strange place that I didn't know yet what. Aah, scary! But I'm SO glad I did. I got to know Petra, and especially after our coffee date that followed, I knew that Petra would help me move forward. I had a stressful job, but I also suffered from severe shin splints that really took the fun out of running. My solution in the past was to simply stop running and then start again the following year, but of course that didn't get me any further. Together we made a plan to work towards my goal competition: the Dam tot Damloop 10 EM.

With the help of a tailor-made schedule, strength training specified for me and the early but always fun running training on Sunday morning at 8 am, I was able to walk the Dam to Dam in good time, without pain. And then it started to itch... And now? I knew that I wanted to continue with Petra, I had no doubts about that. I noticed that I was stronger and fitter than ever and wanted to continue that upward trend. The Egmond half marathon was suggested by several people around me as the next goal. But to be honest, I didn't really like it because of the difficult course: about 6 km on the beach, then through the dunes and finally a vicious climb towards the finish. It sounded like suffering, uncomfortable. Nothing for me. So of course I eventually registered.

It was a powerful experience. Nerves beforehand, it was my first half so quite exciting. After the starting shot we quickly walked across the beach, very tough with wind force 7 against more than 6 km long. The race was tough but beautiful and after giving everything I received my beautiful medal after 21.1 km. So very proud that I dared to do this and especially that I "just" did it. Thanks to all the training and coaching, I managed to do this!

I can't wait to see what else I have to offer, because I'm sure there is much more I can do with Petra's help. On to great new goals!

To be continued undoubtedly.. 🙂

Greetings Daphne
