Monday Master Blog: Sports, a necessary first necessity of life

By keeping your distance, wearing face masks and washing your hands regularly, you work from the outside to keep the coronavirus at bay. That's good, but not enough!

Your immune system is the most important defense standing between you and a virus. If your fitness and vitality are not in order, you will not have fully armed yourself when the virus has actually entered and you have to fight it off. You can make your immune system stronger by continuing to exercise or exercising. You then work from within to arm yourself against the coronavirus.

According to several studies, exercise promotes blood circulation, allowing white blood cells to be better distributed throughout the body. White blood cells recognize virus particles that have entered the body and unleash a response to them. With little exercise, the white blood cells are less mobile and the effect is reversed. Exercise therefore improves our natural resistance and protection against the ingress of micro-organisms. It thus ensures the prevention of diseases. At least half an hour at a time improves immunity. And not only that. Exercise is good for everything: digestion, hormone balance, heart function, musculoskeletal system and also the brain. Exercise improves blood flow to the brain, which benefits memory and concentration. It reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease and also reduces the level of stress hormones such as cortisol, which can weaken the immune system.
