Liesbeth's Enforce story: The Enforce principle of 'brutal honesty'

Is gymnastics for the elderly also part of your offer?

I asked Rick Berkhout this on the phone. After years of sitting still, I decided to start exercising again. For the past ten years I had been writing a philosophical dissertation in addition to a full-time job and that was starting to take its toll physically. As my mind became more and more elastic, I literally could hardly move. I had also gained a lot of weight during those years, but - even more annoying - I also lost control and confidence in my body. I could barely walk down stairs and I was always tired. Something had to be done, that was clear. My neighbor recommended Personal Training at Enforce and gave me Rick's number.

Do you know what the relationship is between body and mind?

Master trainer Mitchell Bakker asked me this during the introductory meeting. A question that I, as a philosopher, knew what to do with and a nice conversation ensued in which I became acquainted with the Enforce principle of 'brutal honesty'. The training was intense. First I had to get on and off a small scooter. That made me so upset that tears came to my eyes. Then I got hyper, tripped over one of the fitness machines and was completely lost.

Mitchell had a lot of understanding and patience and worked with me step by step on more mobility and regaining control and confidence in my body. It turned out that I was not lacking in stupid strength, I had enough of it, but reconnecting body and mind turned out to be a tough job.

It was very nice that Mitchell is not only a skilled trainer, but also has a lot of humor and positive energy. Not only is there room to train, but there is also opportunity for what I ultimately enjoy doing most: having a good conversation. That doesn't change the fact that I never thought it was possible that I would enjoy sports so much. So much that I even trained like a true The Icewoman in frost and a thick layer of snow.

Focus on where you are going, not where you came from

I often raise my eyebrows when I see some Enforce tile wisdom passing by on Facebook. But that doesn't change the fact that I really like Enforce's approach. They take everyone for who they are and where your weakness and strength lie. The focus on finding balance between the two makes the difference for me. The philosophical lesson I learned is that man not only has a body, but is also a body.

Kudos

Kudos to the men and women of Enforce who have managed to come up with creative solutions every time a new lockdown was announced!! That also needs to be said. Enforce is a gym that I enjoy going to: a safe and pleasant place!
