Monday Master Blog: 5 tips for an energetic holiday

Finally holidays!

We are going to chill out en masse, relax and above all enjoy ourselves. To the beach, lovely weather, nothing to do. In practice, such a holiday often boils down to strolling to the buffet, past the beach bed and back again. That really doesn't leave you feeling rested, let alone energized.
And damn, that divine summer body you worked so hard for will be back to its old proportions after 2 or 3 weeks. Grrrrr.

How do you get more out of your holiday and come back rested and fit? Here are my tips:

1. Make healthy choices. Lack of time is certainly no excuse now! Go to the local market and enjoy all the tastes, smells and colors. Prepare a tasty and healthy meal from those exotic delicacies. Is your holiday all-inclusive? Then look for healthy alternatives, they are probably at the back somewhere, or ask for them.

2. Take your sports outfit with you and start every day energetically with some exercise; play a game of volleyball on the beach with your children, take a refreshing dip in the sea, go for a run on the boulevard, have a pillow fight or box with yourself in the mirror. Challenge yourself and your family and do a fun challenge together. This will boost your metabolism and you will immediately feel like doing fun things that day.

3. Keep your alcohol consumption within limits. An evening of sagging is of course no problem, but 2 weeks of all brakes is the other extreme. Would you like a cool beer or a fresh wine with your meal? Then alternate alcohol and water.

4. Drink plenty of water anyway; it prevents you from dehydrating and feeling drowsy. Thirst is often confused with hunger. So make it as easy as possible for yourself.

5. Take enough rest. Going to bed late is certainly part of the holiday, but don't compensate for that by sleeping in until after noon. Better get up on time and, if necessary, take a power nap in the afternoon, followed by, yes again, some exercise.

Your body does not understand that it is on holiday and feels better with some structure. Exercise also gives you the opportunity to distance yourself from your daily routine (or is it routine?) and think about what you would like to do differently when you get back home. You may want to work specifically on your vitality and health. Then you have already made a good start to this holiday.

And as for those kilos...
What doesn't come on doesn't have to come off. However?!
