Monday Master Blog: Enjoy your sport

Why do you exercise?
Why do you move?
Are you doing this because you have to?
Who do you want it from?

There are several reasons why people exercise. But unfortunately, the main reason for many is dissatisfaction with their body image. And to ensure that it gets better OR at least not worse, people exercise regularly (with some reluctance). But then I ask the question whether that makes you happy?

Your body image is formed by (internal) feelings. Characteristics of your ideal body image include shape, body characteristics, how your body functions and any physical limitations. A disturbed body image can undermine your self-image, self-confidence and self-esteem, which is not only annoying, but can even lead to depression or poorer performance at work and/or school. In addition, you can be confronted with it during the day, which often sucks a lot of energy.

You can also be confronted with these feelings during exercise, which can also make exercise unpleasant. Then we haven't even talked about circumstances such as exercising in the rain, teammates you don't like, sweating, doing exercises you can't do (yet). If that is the case, it remains a vicious circle of negativity and it becomes extremely difficult to experience success in reforming the ideal body image.

To prevent this, I firmly believe in the following:

Enjoy your sport and the results will come naturally.

Whatever these results may be, there are of course more conditions to achieve them, let that be clear. But first of all, make sure that you really want to exercise, that you would be really disappointed if you had to work late and then have to miss exercise. That you would do anything to go because you are enjoying it so much. What should you do for that?

1) Choose a sport you like.
2) Exercise with people who are like-minded and/or with whom you have a good relationship.
3) Make sure you often experience success in sports, you know best what success means to you. If you don't know that yet, it's useful to find out.

Once you have achieved this, exercising becomes a commitment for you. Then it becomes so important to you that you no longer even think about annoying things such as rain, sweat and ignorance. Then you can start focusing on your body image. Determine your goals and put in the effort. As long as you enjoy what you do, that will make you happiest in my opinion.
