Life can be an unforgiving slap in the face. Setbacks come without warning and often leave you with a feeling of defeat, frustration and are inevitable. But how do you deal with it? And do you really do something with it?
Here are some strategies that can help you cope with setbacks:
Acceptance: Stop looking for excuses. Yes, it's easy to complain and point fingers at the circumstances, but that doesn't change anything. Try to accept the reality of the situation instead of fighting it. Accept that failure is part of the process of growth and development. Allow yourself to stumble and learn from it. It is better to fail and learn from it than to never try anything for fear of failure. Recognizing the setback is the first step to finding a solution. Don't forget to sometimes pause for a moment and create space through rest, in order to make the right decision.
Amendment: Life rarely goes according to plan, so be prepared to adapt to changing circumstances. Don't be so rigid that you break at the first bump in the road. Bend with the wind and find ways to reinvent yourself when necessary.
Self-care: Take care of yourself. Take time to relax, eat healthy and get enough sleep. Physical and mental health are crucial during difficult periods.
Sport: Exercise, Fitness, Walk. These are all examples in which you do not have the opportunity to think, and you take the thoughts away for a while. After performing a sporting activity, you can make clear decisions again, without hasty decisions by being in the moment.
And finally, don't forget to ask for help when you need it. You don't have to go through everything alone. Talk to friends, family or professionals if you are having a hard time. Showing vulnerability is not a sign of weakness, but of courage.
