Monday Master Blog: As stiff as a rake or do you want more depth in your squat?

Mobility Flow is the answer; read on and you will understand why!

Nowadays we spend a lot of time behind the laptop or watching series on the couch and our body adapts very efficiently to this. This way the body can support us well in the activities we do most. However, this functional adaptation of the body also has a downside; How does it feel now when you bend over and try to touch your toes? As stiff as a rake? You will probably feel a lot of tension in a number of places at the back of your body, perhaps even a painful tension.

Have you come a long way? Or do you just reach your knee? In order to bend, lift and squat, the body needs a certain mobility. This mobility occurs when your joints and connective tissue in the body can slide and move properly.

You could think of it as if we are covered in a kind of diving suit with different layers and wires underneath that can slide and move in relation to each other. This sliding and moving of those layers is easier when there are few knots and stiffness in the different layers. (If you want an image; this video gives a nice image, especially from minute 5:50

But you can probably also imagine that a knot or adhesion occurs regularly somewhere in the body due to, for example, stress, overload, operations, but also mainly due to the lack of different types of exercise. They can cause pain and radiance and are sensitive to pressure. To loosen those knots there are various techniques available such as Fascia Therapy and Dry Needling, but the most important thing is moving all the layers of your wetsuit in all the different directions there are. This ensures that the layers remain flexible and the adhesions can be dissolved. You will find all these movements, for example, in the yoga and Mobility Flow classes that will soon be followed at Enforce XL Rotterdam!

In the Mobility Flow class you will work on a mat to work on your mobility. It is a practical, no-fuss class with the focus on reducing stiffness and supporting a flexible body. Perfect and actually indispensable as a supplement to your strength training.

Come experience what it can do for your body, everyone is welcome! The lessons are provided by Charlotte, also a Sports Physiotherapist here at Enforce XL Rotterdam.
