Brechtje's Enforce story: This time I really persevere

I say that about every year when I take out a gym membership. I can keep it up...for 3 months, and then I've had enough, because I can't achieve what I had in mind.

Since I joined Enforce in February 2019, I know that it takes a bit more than eating healthy for 1 month and going to the gym 5 times a week.

Unfortunately, it emerged in 2013 that I have a rare chronic adrenal gland disease, for which I take medication daily. Due to 'Addison's disease', I have always suffered from fluctuating weight, because my body is constructed differently than everyone else. If I don't pay attention for even a moment, the pounds will fly off.

I started at Enforce in February 2019 for 3 months, I learned so much from Mitchell. Not only about the training itself, but especially about nutrition. I started at 58 kilos. Which really wasn't much since I'm 1.76, I found it so difficult to eat and gain weight because it doesn't feel right if your goal is to see more visible muscles and look fit. And eating so much and gaining weight doesn't belong in that picture, I thought. Until Mitchell helped me with this, I now know that I would never achieve that goal just by going to the gym. He kept saying 'eating, eating and more eating!!!'. Now I know that it is largely due to the diet.

Sometimes exercising is not just about healthy food, of course you shouldn't go to the McDrive 3 times a day, but sometimes your body just needs more fuel. And if, like me, you don't always arrive easily, you need more fuel, so a visit to the McDrive is not a problem at all. Only this felt so strange to me, the image of sports and McDonald's, to use another example, was not correct. But remember, you are not immediately unhealthy after 1 unhealthy meal! Or healthy after 1 salad, you have to build this up and it takes time, this is not done in 1 month as I always thought.

After those 3 months at Enforce, I continued on my own, unfortunately again without success. In 2020, Corona arrived, which caused the gyms to close and I was immediately demotivated. When the gyms finally opened again, I was fed up for the umpteenth time and I texted Mitchell again, I now know that I just need that support.

We discussed my goals again and are now working on gaining muscle mass again, my goal is dry training for the summer. I am currently at 69 kilos where a year ago I was still around 60! I never thought I would be so happy and proud of such a weight because I always thought the lighter the better. I notice that I have grown since I started training at Enforce Rotterdam again, not only in the gym but also as a person. I am much more confident in my shoes, and I feel much better about myself now that I know what I eat and what it does to my body.

I'm always amazed at how much my body can handle, I always see videos on social media of girls my age and build with heavy weights in the gym. I always wanted to be able to do that too, if you believe in yourself enough and don't give up when things don't go your way, anyone can do this. As cliché as this sounds, it is really true. I have often had enough setbacks that I have lost 2 kilos again while I had only gained 1 kilo. This is part of it, but it doesn't mean you can't do it! It's so nice when it works again! I'm still far from where I want to be, but with the help of Mitchell and everyone at Enforce, I'm definitely on my way, and I'm so grateful to everyone for this!
