Monday Master Blog: You choose stress

Over the past 3 months, we have all been swamped by the measures surrounding the new Corona virus. Restaurants and gyms had to close, events were canceled and even in the supermarket you could no longer get your groceries in a relaxed manner.

This has caused many people to face or still face a stressful period.

Many entrepreneurs saw their profits plummet and had to rely on reserves and support from the state. Where other entrepreneurs had just started or simply had no buffer and went bankrupt.

Wherever you are in society, we have (almost) all experienced stress. But where one will perform better and remain innovative, creative and positive. The other person goes into sackcloth and ashes and places the blame outside himself. I'm not saying that's right or wrong, but I do realize that this is completely your own choice.

What struck me most is that many people say they want to play the Champions League, but the referee is to blame for the reason that no goals can be scored. In short, you place the blame for the lack of goals, and therefore the win, outside yourself.

I see it like this:

You have been playing football for years, know the rules of the game and are used to them. Then the KNVB decides that the rules must be tightened, whereby the objective and the environment are the same, but the rules are slightly different.

Then you can decide to stop playing football or you adapt and continue to play in the Champions League.

The crisis has also brought many opportunities. Employers suddenly realize that working from home is actually quite feasible, which means that large office buildings may be unnecessary in the future and costs can be saved. Online meetings have never been so popular and while we initially thought that our service was not possible online, we see that it can be used very effectively.

We are all used to a certain pattern, which is also protected by part of our brain. But even with the unworkable stories in our heads, you can make choices that contribute to energy, passion and growth.

Use the crisis, seek help if you can't figure it out yourself, stay creative and, above all, positive.

Only then will we emerge from it without burnout and depression.

Only then will the economy get back on track.

And only then can you continue to do what makes you happy.

Take good care of yourself, your body, your health and build the pyramid from there. Exactly as Abraham Maslov described about 80 years ago in his hierarchy of needs.
